It’s not often I get out in January / February due to diets, budget etc. But my sister was visiting and we decided to head out for a family meal. We chose the Devon Doorway on the Wirral. Despite a modern feel it retains a lot of country pub style features (open fires, thatched roof etc.) which make it a really nice place to eat. The staff are always welcoming and friendly and the whole place has a sort of warmness to it.
The evening menu has lots of variety, from pizza’s to pies there’s something for everyone. They do sell out of some dishes though, so be careful not to get too excited about your choice if you look at the menu before you visit. Dishes are reasonably priced which is always a bonus. Sometimes pubs can really hike up their prices in an attempt to be more exclusive. But not this place! Dishes start at £9.95 which I don’t think is too bad at all. Especially given the quality of the food which is delicious!
I’m a Pizza kind of guy. When it’s on the menu I usually pick it. Which is exactly what I did here. I had the Carne Pizza which was absolutely gorgeous. It’s topped with chicken, chorizo and pepperoni – yum! The meals here are really good value for money and it’s even better when there is an offer on.
The Devon Doorway has regular promotions / offers and as we visited on a Friday we took advantage of Sparkling Friday’s with special prices on anything bubbly. Who doesn’t like a bit of prosecco after a long week of work? I certainly do! If you’re thinking of visiting, sign up to their newsletter here and book your table here. You’ll get all their latest offers straight to your inbox.
Every good meal has to finish with a dessert right? Well, this place has some real treats on the menu. From cookies to crumbles, you’re guaranteed to find something that tickles your fancy. They even do these cute mini desserts to accompany your after dinner coffee if a full size portion is too much!
I had the Melting Golden Chocolate Bomb. With caramel ice cream, chocolate popping candy and hot Devon cream toffee sauce I was in heaven. I could have done with some more ice cream but that might be because I’m greedy – ha!
There’s nothing better than good pub grub is there? Well, maybe a holiday in the sun but beggars can’t be choosers.
